Why do so many refer to Elders as "window washers"?
by adjusted knowledge ini know the society is against higher education and the pursuit of careers but in my experience the elders in the various congregations i attended had good careers.
in fact most had their own businesses.
thinking back of the boe when i was a teenager this is what they had as a career: two were respected carpenters who owned a construction business, one a high school teacher(he was the po), one sold insurance and was a lawyer, one owned a landscaping business and also hired sisters to clean office buildings and other accounts he had, one was retired, and the last was a janitor for the school board.

I know The Society is against higher education and the pursuit of careers but in my experience the elders in the various congregations I attended had good careers. However the last one who was a janitor received a pension from the state of Florida and other benefits. The only elder that struggled with money was the Elder who owned a landscaping business but that was because he lacked health insurance. Years later his business grew and is doing quite well now though he died of cancer.
It was quite comical when the elders would give talks on education when one had a law degree and the PO had a Masters in Education. There was also a very respected ministerial servant who I thought was quite humbled that would give talks often. He was a multi-millionaire but never flaunted his money. He too owned his own business. But yet he too would give talks on pursuing a career in this ending system of things.
So my question is, Was the congregation I attended in my youth the exception?

The INTJ Personality Type, (and those close to it)
by done4good ini am compelled to write a bit about this at this late hour here in the us, because it is keeping me up.. the recent four year old thread on the briggs myers personality type test that was dug up, produced an interesting finding.
many here, (at least tested informally for), the intj personality type.
intjs also do not understand irrational behavior particularly well at all.. why does this matter?

Mine was ISTJ. But the thing with me is I have two personalities. I'm a different person in all aspects at work then outside of that environment. At my job I'm a manager and interact with people all day (1000's of people). On the surface I seem socialable but outside of work I don't socialize and perfer people to leave me alone. So not sure how accurate these online test are.

Wow, the WT is worse than Walmart
Atleast with Walmart you have a chance to move up to managemant and make a living. In addition those long term Bethlites could end up having no social security or a very modest check.

Local Kingdom Hall Speakers To Be Replaced By Governing Body Video Feeds.
by donuthole inso we've seen as the current gb is getting more facetime in an effort to reach the hearts and minds of the rank and file.
this took a leap with video feeds at an open annual meeting.
the international conventions are taking this a step farther.. do you think that local speakers at kingdom halls could ever be replaced by headquarter approved video feeds?.

I thought the same for some time now. Eventually this will happen. The technology has allowed the cost to be quite affordable.

What would the ideal racial demographic be for the Governing Body?
by LogCon inthe number of white men on the governing body has often come up for discussion.
the negro member has been called the 'token black.
' no reflection on his race, but it just seems odd that with the great number of witnesses around the world, in such a variety of countries, that every member, but one, is white.. in your opinion, [with 8 as the target number].

Aborigines, Negrito of Luzon, and the Quechuas. Should make the JW more interesting and especially the new light from the new GB.

"Banned in Brooklyn"
by Quendi ini hope this thread generates some discussion as well as some amusement.
i want to talk about "banned books".
back in the middle ages, the roman catholic church issued its index librorum prohibitorum, the list of prohibited books.

I recall a family I was close to. I would play D&D with their son. His mother found about $400 worth of Dungeons and Dragons book in his room. This was the late 80's and was a lot of money for him. I think he was 13. Well, when I came to his house to play a session, there on his porch was this pile of ashes. There door was open to the house which lead into the living room. He was at the table with his parents, surrounded by bibles and other WT books. I was told to leave that Ronny was grounded. lol

A recently enrolled for a few courses at a Public University and noticed a similar trend. My "books" were pages sealed in a wrapper. I was expected to buy a 3 ring binder. This is a major traditional University. It all goes to cost cutting. The funny part is my books still cost $200-$300 each.
All the Society needs to do is eventually eliminate their biggest expenses. They don't pay taxes, except perhaps impact fees on new buildings, and no real major labor costs.
Eliminate/Reduce all Printing ----- Go Digital
Limit Liability
Invest donations in Buildings/Land
Reduce Energy Costs/Sustainability Invest -------- solar panels, wind power ect..
I would even eliminate COs----- Make sure all KH have WIFI and stream talks from New York. The last one would be what I think will eventually happen.
